Managing Templates

Templates are managed from their respective iD CMS folder. Security settings govern who can modify the structure of templates.

This process is conducted through the Front End of iD and will depend on the level of Security applied.

Update Template Properties

Template properties provide the user with the ability to Edit the template title, description, active status, the category or folders where the template can be used, as well as a preview thumbnail of what the template looks like.

Updating the Template Thumbnail

A template thumbnail should always be created and uploaded when a new template is created. This allows users who may add / edit layouts to see a preview of which template they have selected.

If a template has been updated, it will also require a new thumbnail to be updated/uploaded.

Before completing the steps below, ensure you have already created the new thumbnail and saved it to your local computer or network.

Follow the process below to upload or update a template thumbnail.

If uploading a new thumbnail, follow the process to create a template and then once on the Properties tab go to step 3 below

OR

If updating a thumbnail, follow the process to edit a template and then select the Properties tab, then to to step 2 below.
To remove the existing thumbnail, click the Remove button
(Note: this will immediately remove the existing template thumbnail)
To update / upload the new thumbnail, click the Upload button
Navigate and locate on your local computer or network the thumbnail you have created, and select Open to upload it to the template properties
Once the thumbnail is updated/uploaded, select Save from the Editing Toolbar to save your changes. An Exit prompt will appear, enter in a description and then click OK

Version Control

Provides the user with version information that documents changes made to the template, as well as allowing the user to revert to a previous version if required.

To revert to an existing version select the Radio Button of the relevant version and select the Revert button.
To view an existing version select the View link located on the right of the relevant version.

Deleting a Template

Templates that are currently in use are not able to be deleted (i.e. if there are pages within the system based on the template).

Navigate to the folder storing the template(s) to be deleted
Select the Title of the folder
Select Templates tab
A list of templates will be available (as shown below). Here, templates can be selected via the check-box located to the left of the template listed. Select the template(s) you wish to delete, then select Delete from the Actions menu.

Click OK to confirm deletion and the template(s) will be deleted. Click here or more information on how to restore deleted templates from the Recycle Bin as explained in the Managing Folders Help section.

Setting a Default Template

A default template is automatically selected upon page creation.

Navigate to the folder for which you would like to set the default template for
Select the Title of the Folder
Select Templates tab
A list of templates will be available (as shown below). Select the Check Box of the Template which is to be be set as the default template.

Select the Make Default option from the Actions menu located above the Template List.
The Default Template will be indicated with a star icon.

Assigning Templates to a Folder

Templates can be made available to the current folder

Templates via Editing Toolbar

Navigate to the existing folder where you want to make templates available to
Go to the Editing Toolbar at the top of the screen and select Actions > Select Templates - Click here for more information about Managing a Folder
A pop up will be presented with a list of available Templates to select from. Select the Check Boxes of the template(s) you wish to make available within the current folder, then click OK.
A list of templates will now be available within the folder.

Templates via Folder List

Navigate to the applicable folder
Select Templates tab
Select the check box of the relevant template(s) you wish to make available to another subsite
Select the Copy option in the Actions Menu above the template list

You will be presented with a Copy Destination pop up

Once the destination folder(s) have been selected, click OK to make the templates available to the destination
