Component Properties

The Navigation Component enables authorized users to display existing vertical and horizontal navigation bars created within the Nav Editor tool in other parts of the site. Any updates performed on the navigation bar are simultaneously reflected when it is viewed.

The advantages of using the Navigation Component are:

Easily place shared navigation bars throughout the site
Display multiple navigation bars on your subsite based on your requirements
Update the menu items in the Navigation Bar and have the change reflected in multiple locations of you subsite

Menu items in the Navigation bar are maintained via the Admin. Each subsite can have its own specific navigation or a Shared Navigation from another subsite. To edit the navigation items, you must access the Nav Editor application for the applicable subsite via the Admin of the intranet (see Nav Editor).

Editing Content

Selecting the Navigation to display
After dragging the component onto the page, you will need to select which Navigation will display there.

Select from the Existing Source list displayed in the tree view, as shown below

Note: A navigation bar can only be selected if it is available within the current subsite or set to Shared. A Shared Navigation Bar is indicated within the tree view. The Navigation bars are categorized within Horizontal and Vertical as shown above.

Click OK to confirm the selection.

After the Existing Source has been selected, a Navigation bar will display.

Component Properties

Authorized users are given the ability to edit the properties of the Navigation Component. By editing the properties, the authorized user can adjust the available functionality and the look and feel of the component within the site.

The editing of the properties is divided into 2 tabs:

General Properties
Allows users to enable and disable general styling and formatting properties.
Template Properties
These properties are set within the template and are not usually editable outside the template. They control the overall use of a component. For example, a component can be configured so that the component itself cannot be removed.

General
General Properties are related to the general appearance of the component within its nominated location. Listed below are the properties available for modification.

Name
Default Value: None
The name of the component, used as the identifier for the component.

Padding - LEFT | RIGHT | TOP | BOTTOM
Default Value: 0px
The padding property specifies the padding that will be placed around the component. Specific values can be applied to the left, right, top and bottom sections of the component's boundary.

Border Width
Default Value: 2px
The border width sets the border width around the component. A width of 0 indicates that a border will not be added.

Border Style - NONE | DOTTED | DASHED | SOLID | DOUBLE | GROOVE | RIDGE | INSET | OUTSET
Default Value: None
The border style determines the style applied to the border applied to the border applied around the component. A style of none indicates that a border will not be added.

Border Color
Default Value: None
The border color sets the color of the border rendered around the component.

Template
The Template properties are set at the template level and can only be edited here. Listed below are the properties within the template properties.

Allow Property Editing
Default Value: True
This property determines if the properties of the component can be modified from the default settings provided via the template.

Allow Inline Editing
Default Value: True
This property determines if the component's content can be modified from the default content provided via the template.

Allow Sharing
Default Value: True
This property determines if the component can be shared for other users to use within the site.

Allow Repositioning
Default Value: True
This property determines if the component can be moved from its current position (drag and drop).

Allow Removal
Default Value: True
This property determines if the component can be removed from the current location.
