Custom Components

The following page explains the process of creating Custom Components within layouts and pages.

Please note that only Front End (Website) Users with the "Full Control" Security Level will have the necessary permissions to creating Custom Components as this can only be done during the Add and Edit Template process. Click the applicable link for more information on Layout Manager and iD CMS Security.

Creating Custom Components

Custom components can be created within both layouts and pages; follow the steps below in order to create Custom Components for both these scenarios (see steps 2 and 3)
Layout Manager > Creating Custom Components
The first step is to navigate to a pre-existing subsite template that you wish to create a custom component for.

Enter Manage Layout mode. For more information on entering Manage Layout mode click here.

In the Manage Layout mode, click the Subsite Templates tab to select a template to create and add the custom component too.

Once you have selected the applicable template, click the Components tab (as shown below). Continue to step 4
iD CMS > Creating Custom Components
The first step is to navigate to a pre-existing folder or template that you wish to create a custom component for.

Enter Manage Folder mode. For more information on entering Manage Folder mode click here.

In the Manage Folder mode, click the iD CMS Templates tab to Edit a Template or select the Folder Actions tab in the top Editing Toolbar to Create a Template.

Once you have entered Edit Template mode select the Components tab (as shown below). For more information on the Components Tab click here. Continue to step 4
Create Custom Components - this process applies to both Layout Manager and iD CMS
The Create Custom Component prompt is used to take a copy of an existing component that allows its properties and content to be adjusted. It is then presented on the Components tab as a new component.

To create a custom component, simply select one of the categories from the Components tab; Site Framework, Application, Media or Text components and then click on the Create Custom Components button located at the top right of the page (as shown below). Then complete the custom component settings (also shown below)

Selecting a component within the Add or Remove Components functionality will take a copy of the Component and insert the renamed component in the Components tab of the chosen category (as shown below). In the example, we have copied the Html component - and this copied component is essentially the same as the HTML Component, just with different names.

To modify and change the content and settings for the new custom component, select the Manage Component button (on the same tab as where you created the custom component), you will notice that it's listed with an Edit link which will allow you to edit the component content and component properties (as shown below).
