Minimum Specifications
Carefully read the Technical Specifications guide for both software and hardware requirements and ensure your server meets these.

SQL database server

Check the architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) of your SQL server:

Open MS SQL Server Management Studio
Go to File > New > Query with current connection and in the query window type "SELECT @@VERSION" (no quotes)
Go to Query > Execute and examine the output. Look for either X86 (which is 32-bit) or X64 (which is 64-bit).

Another way you can check is by right clicking the server in the Object Explorer, selecting Properties and look at the value for Platform.

Download and install the MS Office 2010 Filter Pack. Ensure that you install the filter pack that matches the bitness of your database instance on the database server.

Setting up your IIS web server
For Windows 2003 and IIS6If you are running Windows 2003 or Windows 2003 R2 Server, ensure that you have .NET 4.0 installed and that ASP.NET is an allowed web service extension.

To check if you have .NET installed:

Go to Start > Run > type “appwiz.cpl”
Look for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1

To check if you have ASP.NET as allowed web service extension:

Go to Start > Run > type “inetmgr”
Expand the machine folder then the Web Service Extensions
Look for ASP.NET v4.0 and change the Status from Prohibited to Allowed by right clicking the entry.

For Windows 2008 and IIS 7.x

If you have Windows 2008 Server or better, ensure that you have .NET 4.0

To check if you have .NET installed:

Go to Start > Run > type “appwiz.cpl”
Look for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0

Ensure that you have the following Role Services installed for IIS 7.x. To alter the roles within IIS do the following:

Go to Start > Run > type "servermanager.msc"
Select Roles
In right hand Role panel scroll down to Web Server (IIS)
Click "Add Role Services"
Make sure items that are selected below are enabled. Any roles not listed below aren't required by iD but can be installed optionally.

For Windows 2012 and IIS 8.x

Ensure that you have the following Role Services installed for IIS 8.x. To alter the roles within IIS do the following:
1. Go to Start > Run > type "%SystemRoot%\system32\ServerManager.exe"
2. Select "IIS" (the IIS item may take a minute or so to load)
3. In right-hand panel scroll down to "Roles and Features"
4. Click "Tasks" and then "Add Role Services"
5. Make sure items that are selected below are enabled. Any roles not listed below aren't required by iD but can be installed optionally.
