Adding an Add-On to an existing Template and Layout

This process is conducted through the Front End of iD.

Add-On Apps (also known as API Components) are component-based applications that operate and are configurable via Layout Manager.

To configure an iD Add-On, you will need to access Layout Manager via the Front End of your intranet. You must first add the Add-Onn App to the iD CMS template, as templates dictate which components can be used on layouts.

Adding an Add-On to an existing template and layout

The following steps show you how to make the SharePoint Connector Add-On available on existing Layout Manager templates and layouts; the same steps can be applied to other iD Add-Ons, e.g. Social Media Add-Ons including Twitter, Facebook and Yammer
Select Manage Layout on the subsite in which you'd like to modify an existing Layout Manager template and layout
The Layout Manager application will be displayed, you will see 3 tabs: Layouts, Expired Layouts and Subsite Templates. Select the Subsite Templates tab and click the title for the applicable template
Once the Subsite Template loads in Edit Mode, you will see a series of headings across the top of the page. These assist you in customizing the Subsite Template to suit your needs.
To add the SharePoint Connector to this template, select the Components tab and then click the External subsection. The External subsection should display the external components (or Add-Ons) that are currently available for this template. These components are installed separately to iD and are created using the iD API
Click Set Allowed Components to select which external components are allowed to be used on this template and its subsequent iD CMS pages.
A pop-up window will open that will display a list of iD API Components that are currently installed. In this case, we should see SharePoint as an option. Select SharePoint and click OK
To view the the SharePoint Connector component so that it can be added to this template, select Manage Components
A list of the Allowed Components for this template will be displayed. Select SharePoint and click OK
The SharePoint Connector component will now appear in the External component's list
Save the template. This will ensure that the SharePoint Connector will be accessible to all layouts based on this template
Now you need to edit an existing layout that uses the template you have edited. Navigate to the applicable Layout and select Edit Layout > Edit Live from the top of screen; or click on the Layouts tab, select the applicable layout title and then select Edit Layout > Edit Live from the top of screen
Once the page loads, you will see a notification advising you that the Template used is not up to date. You can either View Template, Update Template or click the 'x' icon to close the notification. Click the 'x' to close the notification. We will update the template via the Layout Properties (see instructions below)
To update the layout template via the Layout Properties, click Properties on the Editing Toolbar, and then click Update Template.
Select the Template you would like to update as the layout template. Note: for our purposes we want to select the same template that we initially added the SharePoint Connector to, however, in general you are able to select any template to update as the layout template.

We will select Home Subsite Template and click OK
The layout will refresh itself. To check that the layout template has been updated, click Components and select External. You will see that the SharePoint Connector is now available to be used on this layout.
Drag and drop it onto the layout to include it
Once you have finished modifying the layout, click the Save icon and select Publish to Live & Exit - this will publish the layout to live immediately and exit out of Edit Mode

Enter a description of the changes made and click Save

Adding an Add-On to a new Layout Manager template and layout

The following steps show how to make the SharePoint Connector Add-On available on a new template and iD CMS page; the same steps can be applied to other iD Add-Ons; e.g. Media Add-Ons including Twitter, Facebook, and Yammer
Navigate to the subsite in which you wish to create a template and click Manage Layout at the top of the screen
The Layout Manager application will be displayed and an Editing Toolbar can be seen at the top of the page. Select New Subsite Template
The New Subsite Template wizard will be initiated

Step 1 - Details
Specify the name of the template as well as the description. The name and description fields should accurately reflect the purpose of the template



Step 2 - Subsite
Select the subsites for which this subsite template should be available



Step 3 - Finish
Review the options selected and either go back and change any of the details selected, or proceed with the template creation by clicking the Finish button



Once the Finish button has been clicked, you are directed to the Edit Template functionality where additional customization of the template takes place
Once in Edit Mode, you will notice a set of headings across the top of the screen. These assist you with creating the new template (click here for more information about creating templates)
To add SharePoint Connector to the template, click the Components tab and select External to display the external components (or Add-Ons) that are currently available for this template. These components are installed separately to iD and are created using the iD API
