Generic Components are managed by Administrators using the Generic Component Manager via The Admin of iD. Located within the Subsite Admin of each subsite, the Generic Component Manager allows Administrators to turn generic components on/off on a per subsite and per app basis.

Managing Generic Components

Select Generic Components from the Subsite Admin menu
Select Manage Generic Components
The Generic Component Manager is displayed; this includes a list of the applications with Generic Component functionality. Select the application for which you want to turn on/off the Generic Component properties
Select or deselect the Generic Component properties checkboxes for the different types of levels, e.g. for Company Calendar, you can turn on or off the Ratings, Comments or Notifications for a particular folder, document or the entire application
Select Apply to save while remaining on the same page, or click OK to save and return to the Generic Component Manager list of applications

Comments

Managing Comments

Select Generic Components from the Subsite Admin menu
Select Comments and then select Manage Comments
Enter the details for the comments you would like to view and click Filter

Select the specific Application or select All Applications to include all comments

Start Date and End Date allow you to view comments submitted within a particular timeframe. If the All day check box is ticked, comments from the whole date specified will be included
Once you have entered the correct information, click Filter and a list of comments will be displayed in the Comments List. If you click the Export to Excel option, the comments will be exported to Excel allowing for further analysis

Approving Comments

In order to approve Comments, you must first turn ON the applicable Config Setting for approval of comments to work
To update the Config Setting, go to Administration > Utilities > Config Settings

You can either use the Filter Settings Search field or scroll down the list of Settings to find the following Config Setting and change the value to True:

Category:	Generic Components
Name:	Comments Approval Required
Code:	COMMENTS_APPROVAL_REQUIRED
Type:	Boolean
Description:	Comments require approval before being visible on the front end
Value:	True / False

Once the config setting has been updated, select Generic Components from the Subsite Admin menu in the applicable subsite
Select Comments and then select Approve Comments
Enter the details for the comments you would like to view and click Filter

Select the specific Application or select All Applications to include all comments

In the Comments List, click Approve for comments awaiting approval

Managing Ratings

Select Ratings and then select Manage Ratings
Enter the details for the comments you would like to view and click Filter

Select the specific Application or select All Applications to include all ratings

Start Date and End Date allow you to view the total votes/rating submitted within a particular timeframe. If the All day check box is ticked, ratings from the whole date specified will be included
Once you have entered the correct information, click Filter and a list of ratings will be displayed in the Ratings List. If you click the Export to Excel option, the vote/ratings information will be exported to Excel allowing for further analysis

Notifications

Use the Notifications function to:

Personally, subscribe to content and be notified of changes via email. Everywhere that Notifications have been permitted (see X), users can set and manage their own notifications and alerts.

Assign notifications to other users. Everywhere that Notifications have been permitted (see X), and the logged in user is Full Control security to a subsite, that person can Assign Notifications to other users for content within that area.

Administrators can configure a number of settings that affect the behavior of Notifications for Front End users, including:

The format of the email sent, either HTML or text (NOTIFICATION_EMAIL_FORMAT)
The frequency to send notification emails to subscribed intranet users (FREQUENCY_OF_NOTIFICATIONS_EMAILS)
The time in which changes to content are stored in users' RSS feeds (NOTIFICATION_RSS_HISTORY)

Notifications can be accessed via the Footer of each page within your intranet site.
