What do I need to know about Master Profile Templates?

A Master Profile Template sits behind a Master Profile. The template controls the column and row structure, which effects where components can sit on the Master Profile
Templates can only be created by Full Control users to this application, ensuring that all Master Profiles have the required consistency and features as determined by your organization
There is also a suite of 3 default templates available out-of-the-box
Multiple Master Profile Templates can exist in the system. But at any one time, only one Template and one Master Profile can be in use

A word on security settings:
Please note Security needs to be set up for this application. Only Front End (Website) Users with the 'Full Control' Security Level possess the necessary permissions to create/edit a Master Profile Template. Please see the Security section for further information on security levels in MyiD.

Creating a new Master Profile Template

Access the My iD appYour installation will have a dedicated link to My iD. It could be:

Via the Clever Tools 'My iD' link

Via the User Profile in the layout

Via some other dedicated link (e.g. Quick Link)

You can access it anytime via the URL structure: http://yourintranet/subsitename/myid
Where 'your intranet' and 'subsite name' are replaced with your actual intranet details.

When you are at My iD, you can decipher this in 3 ways:

From the URL, which will end in '/myid':

From the My iD Editing Toolbar/Ribbon:

From the presence of the Profile Directory:

Create a new Master Profile Template

Select Manage Master Profiles from the Editing Toolbar.

Note: If you do not have the correct Front End Security to work on this application, you will not see the Editing Toolbar. Please approach your Intranet Manager for further action.
Now select New Master Profile Template from the Editing Toolbar. A pop-up will appear, here complete the 4-step wizard process, outlined below.

Step 1 - Details

* Specify the Name and Description of the new Master Profile Template, e.g. 2-Column Master Template

* Hit Next >

Step 2 - Finish
* Confirm details and hit Finish

3. Now build the Master Profile Template: Setting the structure and content for Profiles

Starting on the Structure tab will look like this. On the Structure tab, you will create the underlying layout of where the Profile information can sit on the eventual Master Profile. Here think about:

How much information needs to be presented on Profiles? Less information can afford a more simple structure, whilst if you intend to capture much more information on Profiles, a more complex structure may be necessary
What information should be seen immediately? What information can be displayed lower down the profile?

Let's look at the options on the Structure tab: IMPORT, INSERT, DELETE, MERGE, UNMERGE, EDIT CURRENT CELL

Import

To create a template from an existing template or Master Profile within the system, select the appropriate Import Master Profile or Import a Template option. This will initiate the import functionality (as shown below)

Once you have imported the Master Profile or Template you want to use as a base, you can make changes in line with those described below.

Editing a Master Profile Template

Once you have accessed a pre-existing template, all other instructions on this page apply.

To access a pre-existing template:

Select Manage Master Profiles from the Editing Toolbar.

If you are accessing the Master Profiles from your Profile, the toolbar will appear like this:

Note: If you do not have the correct Front End Security to work on this application, you will not see the Editing Toolbar. Please approach your Intranet Manager for further action.

Selecting the Master Profile Template

From the Main Content Area, select the tab Master Profile Templates

Here, all the Master Profile Templates in the system will display. Select Edit on the template you want to view/modify.

On selecting Edit, you are taken to the template. It will have the columns and rows as previously set. From here you can make modifications in line with the instructions on this page. You can refer back to the Topics list for further selections.

Creating Rows & Columns

Insert
Four options are available when inserting rows and columns. These options insert the selected row, column or cell relative to the currently selected cell. These will be the cells where components are placed, ultimately defining the look of the Master Profile.

Delete
To delete a row or column within the current template, select a cell within the item you wish to delete and then nominate the appropriate option as shown below.

Merge
To merge a cell within the current template, select the cell you wish to merge across or down, and nominate the appropriate option (as shown below). Note: if the action is not possible, the option will be unavailable for selection.

Unmerge
To unmerge a cell within the current template, select the cell you wish to unmerge and nominate the appropriate option (as shown below). Note: only cells that have previously been merged will have the option to be unmerged.

Edit Current Cell
Each cell created within the template has several properties that can be modified to suit the cell requirements. These properties include the cell's Width, Alignment, and Padding. To edit cell properties, simply select the cell and edit the current cell properties as required.

The Components Tab

The Component tab allows you to populate the template with predefined content, manage the available component properties and even create Custom Components.

Components are divided into several categories based on the functionality they provide. These categories include Site Framework, Application, Media, Textand Shared components. Click here for more information on individual components

A word on components on the Master Profile template- It is very important to note the function of components on the Template and Master Profile: All components appear identically on each Profile except those that update per user. These are My iD: Profile Header, Profile Fields, People You Follow, People Following You.

Adding Components
To add components to the template, select the component you wish to add and drag it onto the template.

Manage Components
The Manage Components modal is used to control what components are listed on the Insert tab for the template (and initially on pages created from the template). Simply check or uncheck the components you wish to be visible or hidden.

Custom Components
To create Custom Components to be used within the template, the Create Custom Components functionality can be used. Simply click on the button located at the top right of the page (as shown below). Click here for more information about Custom Components

Setting Allowed Components
To control what components are allowed to be used within Master Profiles created from the template, the Set Allowed Components functionality can be used. Simply click the button located at the top right (as shown below).

De-selecting a component within the Set Allowed Components functionality will:

remove the component from the Insert tab for both the current template and Master Profiles created from the template, restricting users from using the component in the future;
remove any shared components from the Insert tab if they are the same type as the unselected component (e.g. image component)
not remove any components currently used on the template being edited
not remove any components from pre-existing Master Profiles that were created from the current template (however if said components are removed from the page, they will no longer be able to be placed on the page in future)

Properties
Provides the user with the ability to edit the template title, description, active status, the folders where the template can be used and Preview Thumbnail to upload a preview of the template.

Version Control
Provides the user with version information that documents the changes made to the template, as well as allowing the user to revert to a previous version if required.

Help
Provides the user with information related to the current functionality via the external iD Help Site located at http://help.intranetdashboard.com (this site).

Currently Editing
This field allows you to select different devices depending on what My iD template you are currently building.

Desktop
This version will be shown when the site is accessed from high-resolution desktop computers and laptops.

Phone
This version will be shown when the site is accessed from phones, such as iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Windows Phone, Blackberry, etc.

Tablet
This version can be accessed via tablet devices such as Apple iPads and Samsung tablets.

4. Saving the Template

Once changes have been made and are ready to be committed, select the Save option from the Editing Toolbar to save any changes. You will be prompted to enter a description of what changes were made.

The user is also provided with the ability to exit the editing process via the Exit option located at the top right side of the page (as shown below). Upon selecting this option, the user can opt to save changes and exit or they can exit without saving (see below).
