Controlling Components

Components are used to create and display various types of content within pages and layouts across the intranet. Users with access are able to manage components from within the edit mode of a page or layout, and authorized users are able to manage components at a template level to control the use of components within pages and layouts.

Set Allowed Components

The Set Allowed Components functionality controls what components listed under the Components tab are allowed to be used within layouts created from the template. When new components are created, they are available on your upgraded site however they must be Allowed first. Then Managed. Please review the instructions on this page.

Navigate to the template you would like to set allowed components for or create a new template
Once in edit mode, select the Components tab and you will see the Set Allowed Components button in the top right corner, along with the Manage Components and Create Custom Components buttons (see example from a template in edit mode below)

Components > Site Framework
For this example, we will select Set Allowed Components on the Site Framework subsection. The Set Allowed Components prompt is displayed and you can see that all components are ticked and available for use within this template
To disable components, tick their checkboxes and click OK.
The Breadcrumb bar and Site List components are now no longer displayed on Site Framework subsection and are not available for use within this template or within subsequent layouts that are created using this template.
Please note the following important information about the Set Allowed Components functionality.

De-selecting a component within the Set Allowed Components functionality will:

- remove the component from the Components tab for both the current template AND layouts created from the template; restricting users from using the component in the future

- remove any shared components from the Components tab if they are the same type as the unselected component (e.g. image component)

- not remove any components currently used on the template being edited

- not remove any components from pre-existing pages that were created from the current template (however, if said components are removed from the layout, they will no longer be able to be placed on the layout in future)

Manage components

Manage Components allows authorized users to control what components are listed on the Components tab for a page, page template, layout or layout template.

Navigate to the page or layout you would like to manage components for
Once in edit mode, select the Components tab and you will see the Manage Components button in the top right corner (see examples from a page in edit mode below)

Components > Site Framework

Components > Application

Components > Media

Components > Text

Components > Shared
For this example, we will select Manage Components on the Media subsection. The Manage Components prompt is displayed and you can see that there are 2 components which are not currently displayed because their checkboxes are unticked
To enable the Image and Video components, tick their checkboxes and click OK.
The Image and Video components are now displayed on the Media subsection and are available for use within this page. Note: the Manage Components listing does not control if the component can be used or not on any template or layout. For that functionality, see Setting Allowed Components (below)
